Begining to Blog

The question a lot of my friends are asking me is:

How do I set up a simple blog (Weblog) website like yours?

The first thing you’ll want to do is know what web resources you’ll need and of course what you would like to name your blog.
That’s not hard, and here is what you need to start with:

The first thing you will need is a “Domain Name

An easy place to register your domain name is the registrar I use Life Domains. They are real easy to use and also provide 1 year of private registration.

However, no matter where you register I recommend only registering there and hosting your website elsewhere.

You want to register your domain, which you own, with one company and host with another. In the event something happens to your host, the domain can be redirected to another host. Remember to always have your site backed up and backed up often.

Secondly you need to Set Up Your Hosting

A hosting service provides a place on the Internet for your website. It gives you space on a server computer and makes your website accessible to any computer attached to the Internet.

By placing your website on a server with a hosting company, you make your website available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. To ensure that your website is always accessible – or open for business – you want a reliable hosting service.

I highly recommend Host Gator for hosting your website. They have great support and they stand behind your business. One other key advantage of Host Gator is the ability to host as many website domains on the same account as you wish. Host Gator  has software programs included on their control panel (Cpanel) called Wordpress.org and Fantastico.

Wordpress.org is the software I use for this Blog and Fantastico is the program that is used to install a Wordpress Blog in about 5 minuets and installs directly to the host server. Don’t download Wordpress because as I said, it is included with the Cpanel provided by your host.

In all honesty, there is a free way to get started. You can use Wordpress.com. Check it out. I tried it out and got the basics down before deciding to go to Host Gator.
